The Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University was established through the notification dated November 17 , 2000 under the State Act No. 1998 (Mah. XVII of 1998) on 3rd December 2000 at Nagpur. The University was carved out of the four Agricultural Universities in the State by transferring five Veterinary Colleges, one Post Graduate Veterinary Institute and one Dairy Technology College. Our mission is to ensure enlightenment and empowerment of students by imparting advanced knowledge in the fields of animal, dairy and fishery sciences by adopting innovative, efficient and effective strategies. We will strive for creating rural employment, economic prosperity and well-being of the resource-poor farming community in the state through viable and vibrant research and impact maximizing extension education serivces and growth oriented and faculty friendly pratices. We will contribute to public health research and with an ultimate aim to enrich human nutrition and welfare.

We will create environment for conducting need based high-quality research, applying the best outreaching strategies and practices, leveraging the strength of our network of constituent colleges and affiliated institutes. We shall produce and offer well trained highly competent manpower and high-tech newer technologies for enhancing productivity, augmenting production quality and safety of the livestock products, without compromising animal welfare. This will be done through a wide range of capacity development programmes for field workers, livestock holders, dairymen and fishermen for bringing about the total metamorphosis of livestock, Dairy and Fishery sectors in the state of Maharashtra.
